Weddings in Italy
Villa San Michele, Florence

Villa San Michele is perfect for your wedding in Italy.  The hotel was built in the 15th century as a monastery, with a magnificent façade designed by Michelangelo.  Now it is one of Europe's most intriguing hotels, a place of charm and beauty nestling in the hills of Feisole above Florence.

The Villa San Michele is an idyllic environment for elegant and intimate occasions and the historic setting creates the perfect backdrop for the perfect wedding, each private dining rooms offering its own unique ambiance.  Our team are delighted to work with you to create your perfect day.

Your Wedding guide to Villa San Michele
by Elena Giorgetti, Chief Coordinator
Weddings In Italy

1. How can you help a foreign couple looking to marry at Villa San Michele?
We act as a full scale wedding planner, assisting the couple with all steps before both civil and religious ceremonies, while also arranging extra services for the reception.  Professional help is much more important for foreign couples, who are unlikely to know local suppliers and are unfamiliar with a different country.

2. Why choose Florence as a wedding destination?
A destination wedding here will let a couple relish Tuscany and, particularly, Florence - a small but great city full of art and charm.

3. What is so special about Villa San Michele?
"Special" is actually the word that best describes Villa San Michele.  Elegant and refined, yet intimate, the hotel offers all of the elements that a couple could hope for on their big day.

4. Who does this location appeal to?
We've arranged weddings for couples of every nationality, from New Zealand to Great Britain.  The great advantage is that the wedding celebrated in Florence is legal worldwide, so that the couple won't need to have a second ceremony once they are back at home.

5. What are the legal requirements for foreigners marrying in Italy?
Specific requirements vary between countries but we

assist the couple every step of the way, from translating documentation to appointments with Italian officials.  This generally means they can arrive in Florence just a couple of days prior to the wedding date.  Divorced or widowed women must wait 300 days after the divorce decree or death of the spouse before remarrying.

6. What is the most extravagant or special wedding you have held?
A few years ago I was asked to organise a concert with fireworks, where the explosions synchronised with the music.  The chamber orchestra suggested pieces with a very distinct beat and for a violinist to send signals to the fireworks operator.  The outcome was wonderful and better than any New Years Eve party.

7. What are the timings involved and major points to consider?
Timing is generally not a problem.  For larger affairs, I generally suggest planning at least six months in advance, choosing photography, flowers, transport and music early on to help create the most memorable of days.

8. What is your top tip for an unforgettable occasion?
Rely on professionals to take care of paperwork and make arrangements with top-level suppliers.  Then the couple have nothing to worry about but showing up on the day.
